API Development

APIs that hold up under real traffic, not just a demo

Clean contracts, proper auth, and documentation your team will actually use — built by the person who has to answer for it later.

Why API work is easy to get wrong

Anyone can wire up a few endpoints that work on their laptop. The hard part is an API that stays fast under load, doesn't leak data through a missed authorization check, and doesn't force every client integration to guess what a field actually means. That's where most homegrown APIs quietly fall apart — usually right when the business starts depending on them.

I design the contract first, build in validation and rate-limiting from the start, and document it well enough that your team — or a third-party integrator — doesn't need to ping me every time they touch it.

What I do

Custom API design and development — REST or GraphQL, built from scratch or added to your existing system, with a schema that matches how your product actually works.

Third-party integrations — Stripe, Twilio, OpenAI, Shopify, and other services wired in correctly the first time, with proper error handling and retries.

Secure, scalable architecture — auth, rate-limiting, and input validation aren't an afterthought; they're part of the initial design.

Documentation that gets used — OpenAPI specs and human-readable docs, so internal and external teams can self-serve instead of asking you questions.

Who this is for

  • Startups who need an API that won't need a rewrite the moment usage picks up
  • Small and medium businesses automating processes or connecting systems without hiring a backend team
  • Teams with a fragile existing API that needs to be hardened, documented, or extended safely

Stack I use day to day

Node.js · Fastify · Express · Deno · TypeScript · PostgreSQL · MySQL · MongoDB · REST & GraphQL · OAuth2 / JWT · OpenAPI · AWS / DigitalOcean / Vercel / Supabase

Common questions

Can you work with our existing backend, or does it need to be rebuilt? Most of the time, I extend and harden what's there. A full rebuild is the exception, not the default answer.

Do you write documentation, or just code? Both — an API without documentation isn't really finished. You'll get an OpenAPI spec and plain-language docs for your team.

How do you handle security? Authentication, authorization, and input validation are designed in from the start, not added after something breaks.
